About the Artist

Robert Horvath (b. 1974, Nitra, Slovakia) is an artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, installation art, digital media, sculpture, and ceramics. He earned a BFA from Midwestern State University in 1999 and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. Guided by a philosophy that transcends singular mediums, Horvath’s work explores themes of gender, sexuality, and temporality.

His early explorations of youthful hedonism in the 2000s evolved into intricate pastiches of homoerotic imagery, often drawing inspiration from the opulence and ornamentation of Rococo aesthetics. His current practice delves into notions of inventedness and amorphism, reflecting a natural progression in his ever-diverse oeuvre.

Horvath’s work has been exhibited in prominent galleries, including Packer-Schopf Gallery in Chicago, Bert Green Fine Art in Los Angeles and Chicago, Lyonsweir Gallery in New York, and Jolie Laide in Philadelphia. He currently exhibits with Erin Cluley Gallery in Dallas, TX.

Horvath is an Associate Professor of Painting at the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University.
